Hi! I’m Susan and I’m so glad you have taken the time to check out my blog! Gray Table Home started in April 2015 from my love for home decorating, arts and DIY projects. Somehow it got out of hand 🙂 . Whenever I can sneak away for a few hours or minutes from my ‘real life’ duties, I love to build furniture, paint just about anything that won’t run away, and find new uses for salvage or refresh vintage pieces of furniture & home décor. And I spend way too much time on Pinterest, Houzz, Etsy, and several great blogs & websites, getting inspiration for my next project.
In my ‘real life’ I am the lucky mom of three beautiful, energetic, rambunctious, and sweet young kids (all under the age of 8). I am the wife of a very patient, helpful and loving hubby. And, oh yeah, I have a full-time+ corporate job and career that I really enjoy too! I try to enlist my kiddos’ help as much as I can in the projects, taking on ‘age-appropriate’ tasks such as holding screws, gluing things, or painting. I try NOT to enlist my hubby unless I really, really need another set of hands (he is so over my hobbies 🙂 …. hasn’t been able to park his truck in the garage for over a year!).
I grew up in a small town in Iowa in a farming community. I guess I attribute my incredibly pragmatic nature to that upbringing (e.g., I cannot fathom spending $1,500+ on a table that I can build myself for a fraction of that cost!). It also gives me a great appreciation for many of the simple things in life… and farm animals too (just ask my suburban backyard chickens!).
My hubby and I have lived in the Pacific Northwest for the past 17+ years and have finally gotten used to the weather. We love to spend as much time as we can outdoors on the weekends – camping, walking, biking, swimming, skiing, snowmobiling, etc. And of course I love to take a detour through any nearby salvage yard, antique shop, or thrift store looking for a ‘treasure’.
In this blog my hope is to share some cool furniture and home décor projects, a few “how to” tips, and my many mistakes and learnings along the way! If you’ll indulge me, I may weave in a story or two about my family, friends, pets, and travels as well 🙂 . I feel honored that you have invested the time in reading my blog and hope you found it useful (or if not useful, at least mildly interesting!). I am just getting started, so please bear with me as I build up the content and connections. I would love to hear from you so please make use of the comments or connect with me via Pinterest, Facebook, or email susan (at) graytablehome (dot) com!
